The life of 17-year-old Ben Austin has been paid tribute to at the MCG following his passing on Thursday.
The teenager tragically passed away after being hit by a cricket ball while batting in the nets during a training session at his local club, Ferntree Gully.
This has led to an outpouring of tributes for the young cricketer following his tragic passing.
And his life was honoured before the Second T20 between India and Australia got underway with a moment of silence while his cricket cap lay on a podium, while both sides stood on to pay their respects.
On commentary, Gerard Whateley would also pay tribute to him.
“We’ve lived through this at the elite level with Phillip Hughes,” he noted.
“And for it to happen at the community level with a teenager who just loved cricket.
“But the stories that have been told by families and friends and they have broken hearts right across the country for the past 48 hours.”
