Cornes lifts lid after Herald Sun journalists have pub altercation over vacant chief footy role
Kane Cornes has lifted the lid on a bust up that nearly occurred between two Herald Sun journalists over the coveted Chief Football Reporter role, recently vacated by Mark Robinson.
The altercation between senior News Corp writers Jon Ralph and Jay Clark occurred at Bells Hotel in October of last year, with SEN’s own David King there to get between them.
Speaking on SEN Breakfast, King said the three of them were having a chat at the pub before things started to boil over.
“It was just two blokes trying to carry on like alpha males and I said boys, relax.”
Both would have a claim to the role, brought into the spotlight by the great Mike Sheahan.
Robinson officially retired from the paper in 2024, having served as chief football reporter since 2012.
