“By a mile”: Cornes tips Daicos to break historical Brownlow record

Collingwood’s Nick Daicos is making a real Brownlow Medal push late in the season.
Already the favourite heading into the round, Daicos secured what is surely another three votes after collecting 42 disposals to go with three goals in Sunday’s win over Richmond.
The young superstar is currently $1.80 to win the award on Sportsbet, and it’s easy to see why many expect him to poll so well this season.
Daicos looked certain to win the award in just his second season in 2023, picking up 28 votes to Round 18 before injuring his knee.
In 2024, he polled a record 38 votes, but it just so happened that the winner, Patrick Cripps, also broke the record himself, winning with a ridiculous 45.
SEN Breakfast hosts Kane Cornes and David King now see Daicos as the outright leader in 2025 so far, with Cornes tipping the 22-year-old, who currently averages the most votes of any player ever per game at 1.18, to eventually mow down Gary Ablett’s all-time record of 262 votes.
Cornes: “Yesterday Nick Daicos had 42, kicked three goals, had 14 score involvements, eight inside 50s and used the footy so well in those tough conditions.
“Kingy, he might get that Brownlow this year after all.”
King: “He’s been getting a lot of votes, he should have won it in 2023 when he was six in front (before getting injured), and he had 38 votes last year.
“We all think he's in front, but there are still a couple of others there, Jordan Dawson and Noah Anderson, I think, are his biggest rivals.
“We haven't seen Nick use the ball as well as he used it on the weekend. He's been able to get a stack of ball, but his damage for some reason has been off for the bulk of the season. What a time to gather it at Round 20.
“It's a perfect time to have him just find this sort of form.
“Is there a guy that you just ‘put your glasses down’ more regularly when he’s running inside 50 (to kick at goal)? You just go, ‘Yep, that's going to go through’.”
Cornes: “There's no one better running inside forward 50 taking a shot at goal than him.
“Gary Ablett Jr has the most Brownlow votes ever with 262. Nick Daicos will break that by a mile. He will end up being the most voted for player.”
