The Blackcaps have resumed on Day 3 looking to capitalise on their advantage in the second Test against the West Indies in Wellington.
The tourists start play on Friday at 32/2 - still 43 runs short of forcing New Zealand to bat again at the Basin Reserve.
After posting a first-innings total of 278, Michael Rae and Jacob Duffy grabbed a wicket each late on Day 2 to give the hosts the edge.
Brandon King (15no) and Kavem Hodge (3no) are the two overnight batters for the Windies.
