Future Australian star helps Renegades to shock final-ball victory
Australia under-19 star Ollie Peake has hit a final-ball six to lift the Melbourne Renegades to a shock upset over the Scorchers in Perth.
Chasing a modest 127 for the win, the Renegades almost let the small chase slip before Peake settled the innings.
Needing four off the final ball, Peake managed to smash a six and secure the victory for the Renegades.
But it wasn't without controversy, with Peake initially dismissed on 15 before being correctly called back by the TV umpire.
Ashton Turner was shown on replays to have grounded the ball after he fell to the surface after taking the catch.
“The ball has made contact with the ground,” TV umpire Stephen Dionysius could be heard stating.
“Player is not in control of his movement, and the ball is on the ground.”
Peake went on to finish on 42*, before heading straight to the airport, bound for South Africa to captain Australia in the U/19 T20 World Cup.
Gurinder Sandhu was the pick of the bowlers for the Renegades, taking 4/27 including three in the final over.
