Strikers break SCG hoodoo in low-scoring affair
The Adelaide Strikers have defeated the Sydney Sixers in a low-scoring and tense affair at the SCG on Wednesday night.
The visitors bowled tightly to restrict the home team to just 9/159 before edging their way to 7/160 with just four balls to spare, marking their first win at the SCG since 2017.
Josh Philippe was the pick of the Sixers batters in the first innings with 46 off 28 balls while Jack Edwards added 32 off 21.
No.2 draft pick Luke Wood, on his BBL debut for the Strikers, produced a superb spell of left-arm fast bowling with 3/26 including the prized wicket of Babar Azam for just 9.
He was assisted by Jamie Overton who was efficient with 2/22.
In response the Strikers made hard work of the chase after losing openers Matt Short (15 off 11) and Chris Lynn (5 off 7) cheaply while Jason Sangha (12 off 15) and Alex Ross (11 off 12) also struggled with bat in hand.
Enter Liam Scott who chugged away for his match-winning 51 off 32 deliveries while Player of the Match Overton contributed 30 runs off 20 balls.
Wood (18 not out) and Hasan Ali (4 not out) were at the crease as the Strikers bypassed the total set by the Sixers to notch their first win of BBL|15, condemning the Sydneysiders to a second straight loss.
