Report: Ravi Ashwin set to join Big Bash club in huge move
Indian cricket legend Ravi Ashwin is set to join the Sydney Thunder for the upcoming Big Bash season, reports Code Sports’ Ben Horne and Daniel Cherny.
The 39-year-old was reportedly being chased by multiple BBL clubs after the spinner expressed interest in joining the league with Cricket Australia CEO Todd Greenberg, with the Thunder now set to land the spinner.
While Indian players are banned from playing in other franchise leagues while active with the national team, he’s free to join the Australian league after retiring from international cricket and the IPL in the last 12 months.
It’s believed he’ll join the BBL after playing in the UAE’s ILT20 competition, which finishes in early January.
While the Thunder will need to fit the superstar into their salary cap, it’s expected that Ashwin will receive a Cricket Aus marketing bonus.
The Thunder open up their season against the Hurricanes in Hobart on December 16.
