Some of Australia’s Test heroes are set for appearances in the Big Bash League before they depart for the team’s tour of Sri Lanka.
It means that, hot off winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in a decade, the likes of Sam Konstas, Steve Smith and Travis Head, amongst others, may play for their respective BBL teams.
Cricket journalist Tom Decent reports how Cricket Australia will look to bolster the domestic T20 competition with some star power, after record numbers across the Border-Gavaskar series.
“As of this afternoon, Cricket Australia still hasn’t given a firm guarantee on who has been released for those games,” Decent told SEN'S The Run Home.
“For example, Sam Konstas could play on Wednesday for the Thunder against the Hurricanes (but) he’s yet to know whether he will be playing that game. Beau Webster will be going back to Tasmania for a few days of rest so it’s a bit up in the air at the moment.
“I’ve been told by some people around the traps that the international players will get as much of the main BBL season as possible and go to Sri Lanka separately so Cricket Australia will look to get as much bang for their buck out of those boys before they go on tour.”
Australian cricketing legend Damien Fleming was pleased with the news that Australian crowds could see our best crickets in the BBL.
“I'm happy to hear that,” Fleming said.
“Imagine (Travis) Head and (Alex) Carey getting back for the (Adelaide) Strikers.
“That’s amazing!”
Australia’s first Test against Sri Lanka is on January 29.
