Turner denied BBL century as Scorchers roast Thunder
Ashton Turner has been left stranded on 99 not out as the Perth Scorchers recorded a dominant 71-run win over the Sydney Thunder.
Playing away from home, Turner was the hero for the Scorchers, rescuing their innings on their way to 202/8 after 20 overs.
Turner entered the final over on 86 before hitting two sixes to move within two runs of his century.
Instead, Turner drove a single, before Ashton Agar hit a boundary and was then caught to deny Turner the strike and his 100.
He becomes only the fourth player in 15 seasons of the Big Bash to finish on 99, alongside Shaun Marsh, Josh Philippe, and Colin Munro.
Entering their own innings, the Thunder crumbled quickly after a 60-run opening partnership between David Warner (25) and Matt Gilkes (33).
Dismissed within three balls of each other, the rest of the Thunder’s batters went cheaply, with only Sam Konstas, Daniel Sams, and Nathan McAndrew reaching double digits, and none passing 22.
The Scorchers’ bowling brigade enjoyed an even share of the wickets, with four bowlers taking two wickets, and ensuring the Thunder were all out for 131.
It sees the Thunder in last with only one win from their opening five clashes, while the Scorchers move to 2-2 to sit in third.
