AFL to raid its own clubs in hunt for new executive
The AFL is set to raid its own clubs with Andrew Dillon wanting to appoint a new Chief Operating Officer, reports SEN’s Sam Edmund*.
According to Edmund, the league will look to poach an executive who holds significant club experience. It is more than likely they will assess their options across a raft of AFL clubs.
The AFL is currently without an executive with the COO title. The league also hasn’t had a clear-cut second-in-charge since Dillon, who filled that position before he replaced Gillon McLachlan as CEO in 2023.
Amid significant change at AFL House, it is understood Dillon wants more club experience among its most senior positions.
Some names who could potentially be targeted by Dillon and the league office include Sydney CEO Tom Harley, Bulldogs CEO Ameet Bains and Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick.
Edmund also revealed that Executive General Manager of Football Laura Kane has made another appointment within her administration with the AFL to announce an Operations Manager to work with GM of Football Performance Josh Mahoney in a Logistics Role.
Veteran administrator Geoff Walsh will also have his expanded position explained at the announcement.
