Daly reveals criteria Neale must meet for GF selection
The Brisbane Lions’ General Manager of Football, Danny Daly, has provided an update on what Lachie Neale must do in order to be selected for the Grand Final next week.
The dual Brownlow Medallist appeared to have his season end early following a calf injury late in the fourth quarter in their loss to Geelong during the Qualifying Final.
But Neale has given himself every opportunity to be fit for the Grand Final against the Cats and if all goes according to plan, the 32-year-old will likely feature, having surprised the club in how far he has progressed from what appeared to be a season-ending injury.
“He’s one of those guys who is just elite at what he does,” Daly revealed on SEN’s Crunch Time.
“He’s certainly surprised us, he’s surprised the medical team, and he is well in advance of where he should be in terms of that injury.
“He’s got to get through the training session (on) Tuesday, and if he gets through that and then the one on Thursday, there’s probably a 90% chance that he’s ready to go.”
If the co-captain is to play, it will be the second time that he has played under an injury cloud in a Grand Final after tearing his plantar fascia in last year’s win against Sydney.
All eyes will now be on whether Neale can get through both training sessions to earn his selection.
