AFL Commissioner chairman Richard Goyder will step down from his post following eight years at the helm.
A 7News exclusive revealed that Goyder, who first took on the role as commissioner in 2011 before stepping into the chairman role in 2017, has told those closest that he will not seek re-election in 2026.
The decision comes amid a flurry of discontent from individual club presidents, commencing nominations for his successor throughout August.
It has been reported that former Collingwood president Jeff Browne, ex-Western Bulldogs char Peter Gordan and former Geelong president Craig Drummond are all in the running for the position, while reports also suggest that none of the current league commissioners will be put forward for the role.
