Delisted Magpie to receive AFL lifeline

Delisted Magpie Finlay Macrae will land and AFL lifeline, with the West Coast Eagles committing a rookie list spot to the midfielder.
The 23-year-old was cut by Collingwood after just 21 games, failing to break into the senior setup after being selected in the first round of the 2020 draft.
An injury-interrupted 2025 saw Macrae feature just five times for the Magpies’ VFL setup this season.
As reported by AFL.com.au’s Josh Gabelich, Macrae – brother of St Kilda’s Jack – met with the Eagles during the trade period and has now received commitment for a contract for the upcoming season.Macrae will take one of the Eagles’ four extra rookie list spots, granted by the AFL as a part of their assistance package.
Beyond the delisted Pie, ex-Lion Deven Robertson will also claim a spot on the Eagles’ rookie list, as reported earlier this off-season.The WA-born midfielder was delisted by Brisbane after 47 games including their 2023 Grand Final defeat, after only managing six games over the last two seasons.
The Eagles are expected to leave at least one rookie list spot open for trial players over the course of pre-season.
