“A lot to offer”: Delisted Blue hoping for AFL lifeline

Former Carlton midfielder/defender Alex Cincotta is open to a fresh start at AFL level after he was delisted in late August.
During his time at the Blues he played a number of roles, including in defence and as a forward stopper, but broke into the side as a tagger in 2024.
After playing 35 games across his first two seasons, a significant pre-season hip injury coupled with the team's decision to play youngsters late in the season limited him to just five games in 2025.
Cincotta’s management, Odyssey Sports, has spoken to a few unnamed clubs as potential options and the 28-year-old said he is keen to earn another AFL contract.
“What’s next? I’ll continue to keep playing I reckon,” he said on AFL Trade Radio.
“That’s my goal. I still feel like I’ve got a lot to offer a club. Obviously it didn’t go my way in the exit meeting but I’m still keen to keep playing AFL footy.”
What are the next steps for Cincotta?
“I’ve got my manager, James Pitcher, who has been working really hard for me in the background,” he added.
“He’s been talking to a few clubs and there are a few interested. We’re just waiting for the trade period to open up and hopefully some chats can start to pick up and I can get picked up by a club.”
The former Geelong and Carlton VFL player admits his delisting by the Blues did come as somewhat of a shock to the system.
However, he is looking forward and is holding out hope that another opportunity arises.
“It was a little bit (of a shock). Obviously I had my injuries this year and I played sore,” he said further.
“It didn’t quite go my way with my body. I thought I had a pretty good 2024 season. I went into my exit meeting and the boys just said the club is going in a different direction and I won’t be offered a contract for next year.
“It came as a little bit of a surprise. I’d done some big jobs in the past so I was a little bit surprised. Unfortunately that’s just the system and the way things go sometimes.
“I’m keen to keep playing and I feel like I’ve got a lot to offer. I’m only 28.”
Cincotta played a total of 40 games across three seasons in navy blue.
