SEN WA Breakfast’s Adam Simpson and Tim Gossage have undertaken the ladder predictor task for the opening six rounds of the 2025 AFL season.
The former West Coast coach and veteran broadcaster made their forecasts based on what they believe will happen early in the upcoming campaign.
With Richmond, North Melbourne, West Coast, Adelaide, Essendon and Melbourne already complete, the pair looked at Gold Coast, St Kilda, Fremantle, Collingwood, Carlton and Hawthorn today.
Gold Coast
Simpson: “Second year with a senior coach is usually a good year because the first year is a challenge when they’re finding their feet. I think they’ll have a good season … I have them 3rd, four wins and two losses.”
Gossage: “I’ve got them 11th at 3-3, and that’s the crazy thing because it can be eight spots of difference with one win.”
St Kilda
Simpson: “It looks like they’ve hit a few injuries again, how Ross covers the cracks will be interesting … but I’ve got them 1-5 after six and 17th.”
Gossage: “I’ve got them the same, also 1-5, but 16th.”
Fremantle
Simpson: “The expectations are high … I’ve got them 3-3, which is 9th.”
Gossage: “4-2 for me, which puts them at 4th … I’m still a bit worried about their forward line though.”
Collingwood
Simpson: “They’re the oldest list in the competition with an all or nothing attitude … if they can get going, they’re really hard to stop … but I’ve got them 14th at 2-4.”
Gossage: “It could be a slow start for the Magpies … I’ve got them 9th at 3-3.”
Carlton
Simpson: “I’ve also got them at 2-4, which is 13th … the pressure will be on to perform.”
Gossage: “I might have done my ladder predictor too early before the news of Jagga Smith, Nic Newman and Charlie Curnow … I’ve got them 5-1, which is 2nd … we can make some subtle changes prior to the season.”
Hawthorn
Simpson: “It might not be as linear as we all think … I think the opposition are going to do more work on them this year, but I’ve got them sitting 4th at 4-2.”
Gossage: “I’m flipped on them, I’ve got them 2-4 which is 14th.”
