A Brownlow and Sheffield Shield in the same year: Dual-code great's unique story

Peter Bedford is this week’s guest on This Is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.
Hailing from Melbourne, Bedford lived out the dream of many young boys in Victoria, making it to the professional level in both Aussie rules and cricket.
As a cricketer, Bedford featured 39 times for Victoria where he averaged 28.10 with the bat and 33.40 with the ball. But it was as a footballer where he truly made his mark.
Playing for Port Melbourne in the VFA and then South Melbourne and Carlton in the VFL, Bedford would claim five best and fairests for the Swans to go with four years as captain.
His best year came in 1970, where he was awarded the Brownlow Medal.
His Brownlow victory came just months after bowling Victoria to victory in the Sheffield Shield against South Australia. What a year that turned out to be.
After climbing the ranks in both sports, Bedford’s story is certainly unique, and he discussed his on-field exploits and much more on this week's episode.
