Corey Parker has defended Romy Teitzel after accusations have been made against the Brisbane Broncos player about an alleged eye gouge during Game I of the Women’s State of Origin series.
The eye gouge is believed to have taken place just before half-time in Queensland’s 12-32 loss against New South Wales at Suncorp Stadium to kick start Magic Round.
The report was made by New South Wales captain Isabelle Kelly who made it known to the referees that her teammate Keeley Davis had been allegedly eye gouged.
However, it has since come out from the NRLW judiciary that no charges were laid from the match.
Speaking on SENQ’s Breakfast, the 19-time capped player for Queensland was quick to defend Teitzel and warned of people making accusations about the incident.
“The thing that really concerned me, and there were allegations of the stroke of half-time, if you’re going to make an accusation of an eye gouge, you would want to have some hard evidence to suggest it was an eye gouge,” Parker said.
“The accusations, Keeley Davis, she made it known to the referee pretty much right on half time that she had been eye gouged.
“And the lady I suppose in question is Romy Teitzel.
“If you know Romy Teitzel, Romy Teitzel is by no means, absolutely by no means a player that would throw an eye gouge in.
“She’s just a hard-working back-rower from Tulley.”
Speaking after the incident post-game, Davis was unsure of who may have inflicted the eye gouge onto her, but she is absolutely sure that someone did it.
“I just won’t say too much on that yet, I don’t know how much I can say,” Davis said.
“Obviously, it’s going to have to go to the judiciary and things like that, so I’ll just leave it at that.”
“I’ve never felt it in the game (till now). I felt an eye gouge.”
