Why superstar Swan's form needs to lift with new contract
Chad Warner, the superstar from the Swans, has signed with Sydney for two more years, as he was always going to do.
It's a big deal, reportedly on $1.3 million a year, which is what he was worth last year.
But so far this season, like his team, he's got a lot of work to do to catch up with the last couple of years' form.
He's currently going through a very lean patch.
The best midfielders in the competition, of which last year Chad was one, average around 18 or 18.5 as a ratings figure.
Last week he scored just 6.6, the week before 13.8, against North Melbourne he scored 8.4.
In Round 3, it was his highest rating of the year against Freo, 19.2.
That's the Chad Warner that we know.
In Round 1 against Brisbane, 12.5, and against Hawthorn in Opening Round, he started the season with a bang with 15.5.
But to justify a figure of $1.3 (million) a year, he needs to be superstar Chad, and rating well north of 15.
So, it's great news that the Chad has decided to stay in Sydney on big bucks, that his past form has justified.
It would be even better, if his current form validated it.
