Why Malcolm Blight has BOTH South Australian AFL clubs as top four chances in 2025
Malcolm Blight believes both South Australian clubs can finish top four in 2025.
Adelaide finished down the other end of the ladder last season, but with young players entering their prim and some savvy off-season additions, Blight is bullish on what the Crows can achieve.
“Third in their best and fairest was Jake Soligo, fourth was Max Michalanney, seventh was Josh Rachele and eighth was Izak Rankine playing less games. Riley Thilthorpe played seven games. That’s steps forward,” Blight told SEN SA’s Sportsday.
“Then you put Isaac Cumming, Alex Neal-Bullen and James Peatling – the guys that have gone haven’t got those credits – you’ve got Sid Draper who’s got a lot and then Tyler Welsh who might be the star of the lot as a father-son pick.
“I’ve just got this feeling that Adelaide could easily be between fifth and eighth and maybe top four if all goes well for them at the start of the year and they play St Kilda, Essendon, North Melbourne and Gold Coast.
“That’s a different start to 1-5.”
Blight tipped the Power to finish top four last season and is confident they can repeat it once again.
“Remember last year I picked Port to play off in a Grand Final with Brisbane. During the season I said to myself – this midfield is not quite ready. Butters, Horne-Francis, Rozee, those sorts of guys, they’re coming,” Blight said.
“Their peak was about 12 months to two years away. So I am bullish on Port Adelaide being wonderful this year. They’ll be top four again.”
