SEN Breakfast host Garry Lyon doesn’t think that Charlie Curnow is an A-grade player.
In an off-the-cuff conversation with co-host Tim Watson, Lyon stated that he thinks Carlton have just two A-graders – Patrick Cripps and Jacob Weitering.
Watson disagrees, with the Essendon great believing that the Blues have four of the very best on their list in Cripps, Weitering, Curnow and Sam Walsh.
With Lyon leaving out Curnow from his list, Watson probed the Demons great as to why he doesn’t consider the two-time Coleman winner an A-grade player.
Lyon: “Who are Carlton’s A-graders? This is the pointiest of points on the basis of where they finished last year.”
Watson: “I've got Weitering as an A-grade player, I’ve got Cripps as an A-grade player, I’ve got Curnow as an A-grade player and I’ve got Walsh as an A-grade player.”
Lyon: “I’ve just got Cripps and Weitering.”
Watson: “Right, so Charlie Curnow's not an A-grade player?”
Lyon: “No.”
Watson: “That's interesting that you don't believe that he's an A-grade player.”
Lyon: “That doesn't say he's not a fantastic player, but this is the pointiest of points.”
Watson: “Right, so he's not a match-winning player, he's not a needle-moving player? I think he’s all of those things.”
Lyon: “I might mark him down on the basis of his finals record.”
Watson: “So, he's not a big-game player?”
Lyon: “Not in finals.”
