Why Brisbane needs a world-class stadium

When the Crisafulli Government announces its plan for the 2032 Olympic Games in early March there needs to be one thing included in that plan above all else…
A 65,000-seat world-class stadium.
I went to see American superstar Luke Combs on Saturday Night at Suncorp Stadium. Back-to-back sell out crowds of over 50,000 people.
The city was buzzing over the weekend, with so many people coming from out of town. Hotels, pubs and restaurants were full.
Estimated economic impact of over $35 million (that’s money into the pocket of local business’ mainly).
Yet for every Luke Combs that comes to Brisbane we miss out on a Taylor Swift or a Coldplay or other major international acts that skip us in favour of the bigger attendances and revenues on offer in Melbourne and Sydney.
Along with Suncorp Stadium, a 65,000-seat world-class stadium would be a focal point of Brisbane, not just for the 2032 Olympics but for the 30-40 years afterwards.
It would provide a new home for cricket, the AFL, and countless international music touring acts, and could even become a tourist attraction like countless other modern stadiums.
If we get this stadium right, its impact on the city will remain long after the price tag has been forgotten, so just get on with!
