The Wallabies have avoided a 3-0 sweep against the British and Irish Lions, claiming a hard-fought 22-12 third Test win in Sydney.
Heavily impacted by severe weather conditions, the match was halted for over half an hour as lightening threatened Stadium Australia, with the Wallabies taking an 8-0 advantage into the pause before putting the foot down following the restart.
Despite only claiming victory in the dead rubber contest, Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt admitted that the result was rather relieving.
“Just immensely proud, incredibly relieved,” Schmidt said.
“It was a rocky old week to be honest and to have the players come out in very difficult conditions - we led 8-0 when we came off for lightning - and just to stay calm and get the next score was really important.
“They are a very strong collective when they do get a bit of momentum and they really worked hard to get it tonight.
“Nothing was easy. They had to defend for periods, and I thought there was a couple of really important turnovers when they were in our D zone."
Following the result, the Lions managed to hold on to a 68-67 aggregate score across the three Tests, speaking to the tight nature across the series.
"The Wallabies won back the hearts and minds of all supporters over the last three weeks,” Tim Horan told Stan Sport.
“They've shown what this gold jersey means to them and their fans."
