Why Beveridge and the Bulldogs look set for a 'renewal of vows'

It appears to be becoming increasingly likely that Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge will stay on in his position.
Coming into this season, Beveridge was seen as one of the most under-pressure coaches in the AFL with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
This was due to being unable to get the Bulldogs into the top four and having struggled in finals across the last three years.
Although, it appears that the pressure surrounding Whitten Oval, and his side has somewhat alleviated after some strong performances.
This season, the Bulldogs are currently sitting in the top eight with a 6-5 record and seem far more confident when moving the ball and scoring.
It has resulted in a softening of Beveridge’s language regarding his position as noted by Tom Morris.
However, nothing has been signed or agreed to just yet which does leave the door open to him leaving albeit unlikely at this stage.
“I don’t think it has been done. I don’t think they have really discussed years at length yet,” Morris said on SEN’s Crunch Time.
“But there’s been a shift in acknowledgement from Luke Beveridge from, ‘Do I possibly want to be here?’ to, ‘Yeah, I want to be here’.
“And I think that is significant.”
When asked by Morris how many years should the Bulldogs offer Beveridge, Gerard Whateley believes that it should be between two to three years.
“Probably two (years),” Whateley said.
“He might ask for three, he’s got currency now.
“This feels like a renewal of vows to me. This is the end of the first phase, they’re actually into the second marriage of this contract.
“So, I don’t view it as an extension per se, this is the recommitment period which is why I would actually consider three.
The Bulldogs will have a recovery week as they have a bye for Round 12.
Their next match will be a rematch of last year’s elimination final against Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium.
