Who did the coaches miss in Round 9?
Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne has assessed which players were overlooked in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.
See who the coaches missed below:
Max Hall (St Kilda)
“Fourth-highest rated player on the ground, didn’t get a vote,” Hoyne told SEN’s Sportsday.
“Very creative of what he did.
“Only Charlie Curnow had greater impact with how they used the footy on Friday night, then what Max Hall did with his 14 disposals.
“So, going along quite well – nice pickup there from the Saints.”
Josh Weddle (Hawthorn)
“Did you see Josh Weddle on Saturday?”
“Did you see him go forward in the last 40 minutes?
“And did you see the impact he had on the match when he went forward?
“He is a star of our competition and he is a star forward of centre as well.
“The coaches did give him 2 votes, but he was our highest-rated player on the ground.
“He is just outside the top 10 players in the competition over the last 6 weeks – flying this guy.”
Sam Durham (Essendon)
“Fantastic for the Bombers,” Hoyne said.
“Third-highest rated player on the ground, didn’t get a vote.
“Combination of how he won it and his pressure on the opposition was superb.”
Bailey Dale (Western Bulldogs)
“Bailey Dale is just an out and out star.”
“You need to start taking him seriously and trying to lock him away if you’re the opposition.
“Didn’t get a vote, third-highest rated player on the ground for his 31 disposals.”
Harley Reid (West Coast)
“It was good to see Harley Reid back at having some impact on the match,” Hoyne exclaimed.
“Didn’t get a vote from the coaches, second-highest rated player on the ground.
“Only 18 disposals, I think that’s what Harley’s gonna be.
“He’s gonna be not necessarily high volume, but it’s gonna be all impact with what he does.
“It was good to see Harley back in form.”
Hoyne also revealed the round’s Most Damaging Player (MDP).
“Jack Crisp was the highest-rated player for the round,” Hoyne said.
“It was actually one of his highest rated games of his career.
“He was superb.”
