Who did the coaches miss in Round 7?
Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne has assessed which players were overlooked in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.
See who the coaches missed below:
Trent Rivers (Melbourne)
“Fifth highest-rated player on the ground, didn’t get a vote,” Hoyne told SEN’s Sportsday.
“I think what him and Jake Bowey are doing at the moment is crucial for Melbourne’s offensive game.
“So, a really good last two weeks for Trent Rivers.”
George Wardlaw (North Melbourne)
“Third highest-rated player on the ground, didn’t get a vote.
“He is also a ratings player. In his 28 games, you can already see the impact that he’s having.
“He’s only playing limited game time at the moment, but he’s still having significant impact on the competition.”
Lachie Ash (GWS)
“Highest-rated player on the ground, didn’t get a vote.
“Couldn’t believe that.
“Second highest-rated game of his career. Second-best player in the game at the moment.
“He’s flying.”
Noah Anderson (Gold Coast)
“Two votes from the coaches, but we had him as the second highest-rated player on the ground.
“I think the way that he was able to handle the James Jordon tag is evolution in his game.
“His ability to be able to impact the game at stoppage was impressive.”
Elijah Hollands (Carlton)
“Highest-rated player on the ground... Didn't get a vote.
“Actually, his second highest-rated game of his career.
“He is going to be critical, I think, to what Carlton are going to be able to do for the rest of the season.
“He’s just creative… This guy has impact with what he does ball in hand.
“Really good footballer.”
Hoyne also revealed the round’s Most Damaging Player (MDP).
“Bailey Humphrey – highest-rated player of the weekend,” Hoyne said.
“(He was) phenomenal.”
