Who did the coaches miss in Round 11?
Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne has assessed which players were overlooked in the AFLCA Champion Player of the Year award.
See who the coaches missed below:
Sam Docherty (Carlton)
“His highest-rated game for more than nine years actually,” Hoyne revealed.
“Didn’t get a vote, we had him as the highest rated player on the ground.
“30 disposals, well done to Sam Docherty.”
Charlie Cameron (Brisbane)
“Good to see Charlie Cameron back.
“His accuracy in front of goal (was amazing).
“Great accuracy rewards you, poor accuracy kills you.
“That left foot snap in the second… 24 per cent of the time you kick a goal from that particular position.”
Charlie Comben (North Melbourne)
“Third-highest rated player on the ground, didn’t get a vote.
“Really good signs for Charlie.
“(Comben has faced) Brisbane and Collingwood in two of the last three weeks, he has been phenomenal in what he has been able to do.
“So, hats off there to Charlie Comben.”
Zak Butters (Port Adelaide)
“Second-highest rated player on the ground.
“I can understand (why he didn’t get any votes) given the dominance by Freo.
“But I just want to give him a bit of a shoutout, his effort from a contest and clearance perspective was significant.”
Daniel Curtin (Adelaide)
“Really liked the performance of Daniel Curtin on the weekend.
“Playing that wing role, so (Curtin) could be a little modern day winger now with the height and the ability to be able to push forward and push back from an aerial perspective.
“Fourth-highest rated player on the ground.
“What he’s doing from a post-clearance perspective should be noticed.
“Going along quite nicely is Daniel Curtin.”
Hoyne also revealed the round’s Most Damaging Player (MDP).
“Friday night wasn’t a great game of footy, but Nic Martin was the highest-rated player of the weekend.
“So, well done there to Nic Martin.”
