Which team will jump into the four from outside the eight? Edmund makes his pick

In the last 10 years, at least one team from outside the top eight jumps into the top four the next season.
In fact, 12 teams have made the jump from outside the eight into the four over that decade-long span, and many expect that trend to continue in 2025.
Just as Geelong went from 12th in 2023 to 3rd in 2024, plenty are expecting Fremantle (10th in 2024) to jump into the top four this campaign.
While Fremantle might be an obvious pick given they were third as late as Round 20 in 2024 and added Shai Bolton during the trade period, SEN’s Sam Edmund thinks there’s another obvious candidate to make the jump in 2025 – Collingwood.
The Magpies finished ninth in 2024 off the back of their 2023 flag and Edmund foresees Collingwood rising again thanks to their off-season additions, as long as they don’t get struck down by injury again.
“People mention Adelaide and Fremantle, but there’s another obvious one for me,” Edmund said on SEN The Captain’s Run.
“I'm actually going Collingwood. They have to be a real contender, don't they?
“They were ninth last year with injuries sabotaging their momentum, they never really got going.
“They add (Dan) Houston, (Harry) Perryman, they have more forward options and (Tim) Membrey comes across from the Saints.
“For their sake, hopefully, they have a better health rating.
“They were ninth last year, but I can definitely see a world where the Pies leap back into the top four under Craig McRae.”
Collingwood begins their 2025 campaign with an Opening Round clash against GWS at ENGIE Stadium on March 9.
