Wests Tigers and Galvin now locked in PR battle

Wests Tigers five-eighth Lachlan Galvin has sent the NRL world into meltdown after his management told the club that the 19-year-old would play his football elsewhere once his contract expires.
Galvin is contracted until the end of the 2026 season but is free to negotiate with rival clubs from November 1 2025. The Tigers confirmed on Monday that the club was willing to pay Galvin the richest deal for a junior in the club’s 25-year history.
It is unclear whether Galvin is not re-signing with the Tigers due to fears over his potential development at the club, his confidence in coach Benji Marshall, the promise of a greater offer at rival club or another factor.
The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio believes the onus is on Galvin and his management to issue a statement and provide clarity on how the decision to overlook the Tigers was reached.
“This is now a PR battle,” Riccio told SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“The Tigers said Lachlan Galvin won’t be given an early release and now we just have to wait and see how this all unfolds.
“There is a belief in where Lachlan Galvin’s football can go potentially at another club and under another coach.
“He’s not the first footballer to believe that. He clearly doesn’t see enough in the Wests Tigers.
“The backlash on Lachie has been immense. It’s been one-way traffic from Tigers fans either wanting him gone now or dropped to the NSW Cup.
“The Tigers showed their fans and members what they were trying to do to keep him. They were prepared to make him the richest junior in club history.
“Galvin has to explain his situation. That’s the only way it’s going to take the element of noise out of the room.
“Until then, we will all be asking ‘why, why, why?'.”
“I think Lachlan Galvin should explain himself.”
The Tigers play the Parramatta Eels on Easter Monday at CommBank Stadium.
The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that Galvin will be dropped for the clash and Adam Doueihi will be named as five-eighth.
