Brisbane Broncos legend Allan Langer has confirmed that he will be remaining at the club despite being dropped from his role on the coaching staff ahead of Michael Maguire’s arrival.
‘Alfie’ had been a staple of the Broncos’ coaching staff since taking the role in 2009, often seen on the field running waters and passing on instructions to the players from the coaching box.
However, with Maguire’s arrival at the club, it was a consensus view that the Premiership-winning coach ousted Alfie as part of his overhaul of the football department.
Langer has since denied these rumours and confirmed that he approached Broncos boss Dave Donaghy about a change of role at the club.
*SENQ’s* Pat Welsh revealed through his conversations with Langer, the details of his updated deal which should allow him to remain at the club for the remainder of his life.
“I ran into Alf the other day, he’s rapt that the deal is done,” Welsh said on *SENQ Breakfast*.
“I can tell you it’s a long-term deal, which will virtually ensure that he’s a Bronco for life, I’m so pleased that this has been done.”
Langer will officially move into an ambassadorial role where he will work in the corporate side of the Broncos’ business.
“They’ve signed a deal, it was done on Friday afternoon,” Welsh added.
“It’s where he wanted to go, I know he was angry with the whole Kevvie situation, but I’m pleased he’ll be there for a long, long time at Red Hill.
“He deserves to be because he’s an icon of the club.”
Langer played in 268 games for the Broncos, winning four Premierships in the 1990’s during the process.
