Webster confirms no chance of mid-season move for Warriors duo

Warriors coach Andrew Webster has rejected any suggestion Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad or Te Maire Martin could leave mid-season, adamant he wants to keep the pair in Auckland.
Off-contract at the end of this year, both Martin and Nicoll-Klokstad have been linked with moves away to the English Super League for 2026.
The Warriors are believed to have tabled an extension to Nicoll-Klokstad, who has been at the club since 2023 after helping take Canberra to a grand final in 2019.
However it is anticipated the 29-year-old Kiwi representative would be able to command a longer deal in the Super League, offering him more security.
Martin, meanwhile, is yet to play a game for the Warriors this year after losing out in the halves battle with Luke Metcalf and Chanel Harris-Tavita.
But Webster said he wanted to keep the duo.
"We think they have a big part to play in our club and we don't want them to be wearing a jersey elsewhere," Webster said.
"But we have to wait and keep talking through that as we go."
Webster would not delve into the recruitment space at his weekly press conference on Thursday, but admitted he was frustrated it was playing being out in the season.
Asked whether it was possible either could be granted a mid-season release away from the club, Webster was adamant.
"No plans for them to leave part way through (the season) at all," he said.
Webster's comments come after Martin also downplayed any suggestion he could leave the club early.
"I'm not going anywhere this year," Martin told Sport Nation's Running It Straight podcast this week.
"I've committed to the team for the rest of my contract so that's the rest of this year ... I've had a few offers to go overseas but I'm sticking my contract out.
"Whatever pops up after that, if I have to move overseas, then I will.

"Ideally, I'd like to stay here but there's some teams that need some halves and if it comes to that, my partner and my family are open to moving back overseas. "
One of the NRL's great disappointments last year, the Warriors are back in the top four after a 3-1 start to the season.
They will head into Sunday's clash with Melbourne fresh off a bye, against a Storm team they have not beaten in their last 16 attempts.
Webster said they were still far from playing their best football, while content with where they are at after the opening month of the competition.
"We're a long way off our best, that's for sure," Webster said.
"What we're trying to do is be better every week and be proud when we walk off. If we do that, that will generate wins.
"And if you do that every week that improvement accumulates and by the time you get to the end of the season hopefully you're in good shape."
