Walsh sidelined with foot injury
Carlton gun Sam Walsh is expected to be out for six weeks after suffering from a hot spot in his foot.
The hot spot would be found following a scan after the Blues' training session on Friday after Walsh was not able to finish it.
A hot spot is just another name to refer to a stress reaction. The injury is often found in runners.
If the issue persisted, the hot spot could turn into either a stress or bone fracture which would have seen Walsh be out for an even longer time.
Given that possibility, Carlton has decided to take the precautionary steps to avoid further aggravation and has sidelined the former No. 1 pick until it improves.
In their injury update, Carlton General Manager of Football Brad Lloyd said that they aim to have Walsh back playing within five to six weeks.
“Sam was unable to complete yesterday’s main training session after reporting soreness in his foot, with further examination confirming a hot spot in his foot,” said Lloyd.
“This means Sam will need a period of recovery to allow his foot to settle before he is able to return to play.
“Given he does not require surgery, Sam will aim to return to the side in just over a month.”
Carlton will now be without Walsh for their clash against West Coast on Sunday night.
That will take place at Optus Stadium with the first bounce taking place at 4:10pm (Perth time) and 6:10pm (AEST).
