Voss: Why Tyrell Sloan should consider a move to Super League

SEN’s Andrew Voss has suggested that out-of-favour Dragons winger Tyrell Sloan should consider a move to the UK Super League to resurrect his career.
The 23-year-old has been omitted from the St George Illawarra Dragons on three separate occasions in 2025 despite coach Shane Flanagan’s moving Sloan to the wing from fullback.
The Dragons have since told Sloan that he is free to explore his options elsewhere despite being contracted at the club until the end of 2026.
Voss believes Sloan could take a leaf out of former Parramatta Eels player and current Super League champion Bevan French in relocating to the UK Super League.
“When I think of the Bevan French example, Bevan had not nailed down a position in the NRL,” Voss said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“We didn’t know what his best position was.
“He then goes off to the Super League, finds a happy place and is now seen as the greatest signing in Super League history.
“Wigan absolutely love him and he is now a great of the game over there.
“Can Tyrell Sloan do that? I think the path is a good one.
“That’s not to say that he’s out of the picture of the NRL for all time because he’s only 23.
“Go over there for two to three years, star in the Super League and see where we land. Perth, maybe a couple of years down the track?
“Maybe that is his place.”
Since debuting in 2021, Sloan has played a total of 70 first grade games and has crossed over for 39 tries.
The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio told SEN that there is still reported interest from NRL teams for Sloan.
“There is definitely a talented footballer there and there’s always a coach that’s willing to take a player they believe they can get more out of,” Riccio told SEN 1170 Breakfast.
“If the price is right, they will sign him. He’s a confidence player and he needs a coach like a Wayne Bennett.
“It’s that type of coach that would get the most out of Tyrell Sloan.
“Other clubs will start to lose their depth with the arrival of Perth. Rosters will thin out.
“His days aren’t over in the NRL.”
The Dragons host the Parramatta Eels in Wollongong on Saturday.
