“Unsurprising”: Carlton makes first significant personnel change
Carlton has parted ways with footy boss Brad Lloyd in the first major personnel change under new CEO Graham Wright.
Lloyd departs the Blues after seven years, paving the way for a new-look team to support senior coach Michael Voss after he was backed in for 2026.
The news came as no surprise to SEN’s Gerard Whateley who expected dominoes to being falling at IKON Park.

“That’s unsurprising,” Whateley said on SEN.
“The board meeting where Graham Wright would have laid out his plans, they had to announce quickly to remove the scrutiny around Michael Voss if they were sticking with him.
“Now the progressive steps are being taken. Brad Lloyd, who owes to the former regime, was unlikely to survive to the next regime.”
Hawthorn great Luke Hodge was on air with Whateley when the news dropped.
He says the cut-throat nature of the AFL industry only lends itself to such decisions when a massive club like the Blues fail to meet lofty expectations.
“If you read between the lines of what people have been saying, when they came back out and supported Voss there were a few people around him that were going to unfortunately lose their job because this is the industry we’re in,” Hodge said.
“Especially a side like Carlton, if you underperform unfortunately heads are going to roll. They’ve made the decision to back ‘Vossy’ this year and I’m rapt for that. I don’t see getting rid of him would have been of any benefit to them considering they’ve had a lot of blokes out (injured).
“Put his full string back in next year, give him another 12 months with these guys and see what he can do with them because he has been depleted from major people who will help that game style that he has.”
Lloyd said he was privileged to work at Carlton for so long and is expecting the club to build on the strong base he helped create.
“It has been a privilege to see the growth of our football program over the last seven years, to arrive here at the end of a two-win season in 2018 and progress to finals and a preliminary final – it has been off the back of an incredible amount of hard work from so many good Carlton people,” Lloyd said in a club statement.
“The best part of this job is seeing people growing and working so closely together to strive to achieve a common goal, and I want to sincerely thank all of our staff for their contribution towards that.
“It has been an honour to lead this football department and work for the same club my father represented. I firmly believe it is full of great people with great values, and strong foundations have been established here to take the Club forward.”
The Blues currently find themselves sitting 14th on the ladder with two games remaining against Port Adelaide and Essendon.
