Trade talk: Three options in front of Harley Reid
There are three options on the table for Harley Reid as speculation over his future reaches fever pitch.
Reid remains contracted with the Eagles for next year, but several rival clubs are having a crack at attempting to lure the 20-year-old back to his home state.
It is understood that Reid has had an offer from the Eagles in front of him since April which Reid’s management hit back with a counter-offer of the initial two-year extension with the option of another nine years on “mammoth” money.
Wherever he ends up playing, the one certainty is the No.1 draft pick will command a hefty salary.
Reid is also reportedly not at all keen on clubs that are struggling.
According to Tom Morris this leaves only a few scenarios.
There are three options,” he told SEN Breakfast.
“One is he signs (with the Eagles) now.
“The second is he asks for a trade in a few months. The third is that he lets next year play out and decides what he wants to do at the end of 2026.
“The third option won’t happen.
“His management aren’t going to put him through what Oscar Allen is going through; he’s already under the microscope.
“He will make a decision on his future in the next few months. That will either be to request a trade or sign a shot term deal with an option for extension.
“You can expect a decision on that in the next month or two at most I would imagine.
“I believe the Hawks are the keenest on him of the Victorian clubs. There are a few hoops to jump though there but he won’t play out 2026 uncontracted.”
