Trade talk: Premiership Dee tipped to depart this off-season
Melbourne has another fascinating off-season ahead if coach Simon Goodwin’s comments are anything to go by.
Speaking after the club’s win against North Melbourne on Sunday, Goodwin said that the Dees were in ‘transition’ as they try to build their next premiership side.
With those sentiments in mind, Seven’s Mitch Cleary pondered if the club would look to trade out some senior players, naming forward Bayley Fritsch as a name that could be up for grabs.
“They’ve got a fascinating off-season ahead because Simon Goodwin has said this is a team in transition,” Cleary said on Seven’s Agenda Setters.
“They’ve got good players under 24 and they’ve got a lot of players at the top end coming towards the end of their career.
“Bayley Fritsch is a fascinating one for me, he kicked six goals in a Grand Final. I reckon there’s a market for a player like Bayley Fritsch, so too Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca.
“These aren’t just middle-tier players, these are premiership players, so a big off-season ahead for the Dees.”

While the premiership Dee still has another year left on his deal, Kane Cornes asked Cleary whether he believes Fritsch will remain at the club next season.
“No,” Cleary replied.
As he’s contracted, any rival club interested in Fritsch would need to trade for the 165-gamer and The Age’s Sam McClure envisions a quality second-round pick getting the deal done.
“I’m a Fritta guy,” McClure said on Tradies.
“I go past the burning teammates' stuff because he kicks goals.
“I think he’s a good player in a good team, and if I were a good team I’d be giving pick 28 for Bayley Fritsch.”
Fritsch has kicked 22 goals from 16 games in 2025 including a bag of three to go with 21 touches in Sunday’s win over the Roos.
