Trade talk: Goodwin addresses Jackson and Pickett rumours
Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin is not about to deal in hypotheticals when it comes to the Luke Jackson trade rumours.
There is frenzied speculation that the Fremantle ruck/forward will request a trade back to the Demons at season’s end despite having four years to run on his current deal.
While Goodwin would absolutely love to have the 2021 premiership back in red and blue, he is acutely aware that Jackson is a contracted Dockers player.

“We love ‘Jacko’. Clearly he’s a premiership player and if it ever came to a point that he wanted to come back to Melbourne, there’s no question that we’d be interested,” Goodwin told reporters.
“Right now he’s a contracted player to Fremantle so we can’t deal in hypotheticals, all we can deal with are facts.
“He’s contracted. I think his manager (Jason Dover) and Luke (himself) have stated that’s the case.
“As I said, if he ever got to the point where he wanted to come back to Melbourne, we’d certainly be interested.”
Has Goodwin spoken to the 23-year-old about a potential shift back to Melbourne?
“No, I haven’t. We speak about footy from time to time but I haven’t spoken to him about that,” he added.
The Jackson talk is constantly connected to Kysaiah Pickett who has long been linked to the Dockers.
It has been mooted that the contracted Jackson could only return to the Demons in a trade that would see Pickett head to Freo.
However, the dynamic small forward/midfielder is contracted with the Dees until 2027 and according to Goodwin is not going anywhere anytime soon.
“I’ll keep saying it - Kozzie is not going anywhere,” Goodwin said further.
“Kozzie’s got two and a half years left at the Melbourne footy club and our pan is to make Kozzie a Dee for life.
“We certainly not going to deal in those type of hypotheticals because we love Kozzie. He’s a Melbourne person and he’s going got be here for a long time.”
The Demons travel to Brisbane to take on the Lions at the Gabba on Sunday as they strive to improve their 3-6 record.
