Touching 2011 GF moment with best mate Cat means the most to ex-Magpie

The last of Collingwood premiership player Leigh Brown’s 246 AFL games came on 2011 Grand Final day.
After the Pies lost by 38 points to Geelong and Brown knew he wouldn’t go out on the ultimate high, he was shattered on the middle of the MCG as the final siren rang out.
While it was perhaps the saddest point of his career, Brown looks back on that moment fondly, and it’s not why you’d expect.
Playing against the Cats in his final game was something extra special to Brown given it was against his childhood best friend David Wojcinski, and it was a moment shared between the two as the game ended that meant most to the ex-Magpie.
“I was sort of hoping in 2011 when my career wrapped up on Grand Final day, I could have two (premierships) and he (Wojcinski) could have two and I could go off into the sunset, but that wasn't the case,” Brown told This is Your Journey – thanks to Tobin Brothers.
“It's still one of my great memories. Obviously, the Premiership in 2010 is a great footy memory and something I’ll never forget. But my last game was that 2011 Grand Final which we lost, and it’s one of my favourite memories in footy, he (Wojcinski) was the first person to come across and give me a hug after that.
“We lost and it was emotional. I knew it was my last game and all those sorts of things. Dave Wojcinski was the first one (to console me), my best mate who I grew up with.
“To share that on the MCG in your last game on Grand Final day, it was really special and a bit of a full circle moment.”
Brown discussed that moment and much more on this week’s episode including being drafted to Fremantle, playing at North Melbourne for six years and his time at Collingwood.
