Thursday best bets from Luke & Gannon (04/09)
Cam Luke & Mick Gannon have your Thursday sorted on Trackside.
The lads have taken a look at Moe, Coffs Harbour & Mackay to bring the Track family some winners.
See their best bets below:👇
Cam Luke
MOE
Race 1 | 5. Kagemusha
This race is fairly poor so I’m going to side with the star stable, star jockey and a horse who has had a fair bit of time on the sidelines to mature. That Bendigo race was much better than this and he trialed relatively well heading into it as long as he handles the going. I think he’ll be classier than the rest and be very hard to beat.
Race 7 | 8. Aseventy Seven
Was okay last start over the 2000m here but drops back to a mile which will feel probably about 1800m in the slop. I think that works for this bloke whose most successful trip has been the mile and Lachie Neindorf will have him a long way from the fence, which I think will be an advantage by this time of the day. It’s a very open race where I’ve included a few in the quad but I think this bloke down in class and down in trip can run really well.
COFFS HARBOUR
Race 1 | 3. Aamira (each-way)
Now this is a little tougher than Casino last start but I legit think it should’ve won at $101. Got stopped twice in the straight when garnering momentum and cantered over the line. There is plenty of speed and Cool Waters on debut will be hard to beat. Back this mate each way as I did where she was $151 this morning hell even back her top four where she’s double figures. I think she will run well at a huge price.
Race 3 | 1. Tartaglia
First up form isn’t necessarily unreal but this is a hell of a lot easier than previous . We haven’t seen anything of this horse prior to this race but all the Godolphin runners in new stables have been presented really well and run well first up and I expect this to be somewhat similar. Toe in the ground no issue and the only time over 1000m was at Sandown in a much tougher race than this. As long as there will be speed as he will get back he will be really hard to beat.
Race 5 | 4. Oakfield Pluto
Probably should be two from two after a bit of bad luck last start at Port Mac. This race isn’t exactly dripping in cream although I do expect Steel Rain to run a lot better than last night at Kembla. Oakfield Pluto will squeeze forward and sit right on speed probably one out one back and be able to strike late , soft track no concern, Andrew Mallyon great jock and I think Oakfield Pluto going to be very hard to beat. Only him and SR in the quaddie.
Race 7 | 6. Monte Maximus
Little freshen up and back to the 1200m won’t be any major concern because there is plenty of speed here today (Claptone and Run Rory Run who must go in the Quad). Soft track form in tougher races so no major concern with that. Ran pretty well in a Highway two back so a little of that form goes a long way here.

Mick Gannon
MOE
Race 3 | 6. Tee Eight
Complete forgive run last start when he was restrained from a wide gate. They ran very slow early and turned it into a sprint home. He’s looking for a staying test and gets it today. Draws ideally in barrier three for Jamie Melham and I expect him to land midfield with cover for a soft run in transit. With even luck from there, he’ll be very hard to beat.
COFFS HARBOUR
Race 4 | 4. Cool Summer Nights
Defeated the fav in her first trial easily enough before running through the line well in a very fast heat over the 800m. Has a tactical speed advantage over favourite and should land a pair further forward in the run. The exposed horses here are weak and unlikely to be a match for the debutants. $4.20 is a crazy price about her.
MACKAY
Race 1 | 5. The Penske File
Ran a career peak for the new stable last start and is really hitting his straps in NQ. The in form Nikki Olzard jumps aboard and from the good draw he should settle in the 1-1. A repeat of last start is enough to win this.
