'There’s something building at Parramatta': Webster’s high praise for Eels
Andrew Webster has backed coach Jason Ryles after a strong win against the Newcastle Knights.
Ryles was brought in this year after the Eels finished 15th last season and sacked Brad Arthur as coach.
While they now sit at the bottom of the ladder, the Eels produced a commanding 28-6 victory against the Knights at Newcastle on Friday night.
That performance has led Webster to believe that the Eels have got the right man at the helm to eventually take the Eels back to the finals.
“There’s obviously something building at Parramatta,” Webster noted on SEN’s Saturday League Kick-Off.
“We get very trigger happy in this game; there’s lots of debate about Jason Ryles after a few games, whether he made the right decision in terms of recruitment.
“I wasn’t one of them, I was always saying let’s give the guy some time, a little bit in the same way as Michael Maguire at Brisbane.
“But there’s something building there, and they look like a different team, don’t they, with Mitchell Moses in the team, and Dylan Brown is obviously settled down.
“I dare say he looks like a 13 million dollar player.
“They have been pushing teams the last few weeks, and that was a win they deserved.”
As mentioned by Webster, Parramatta has had a marked difference in its performance since Moses returned.
Comparing the stats between Round 1 to 6 when Parramatta were without Moses and Round 7 to 11 when Moses has been in the team is night and day, particularly in the scoring department.
Parramatta averaged 13.16 points scored without Moses and averaged 25 points with the skillful halfback.
And on defence, they conceded on average 33.66 points a game before and now only concede 19 points per game.
While Moses is not singularly responsible for this shift in performance, his return has helped the Eels after being injured through a stress reaction in his foot.
The Eels will be hoping to win back-to-back games for the first time this season when they take on the Manly Sea Eagles at CommBank Stadium next Friday.
