The weapon Geelong has that “no one can match”
David King thinks that Patrick Dangerfield has turned into the competition’s most destructive forward in 2025.
Dangerfield has 16 goals from eight games and sits 13th on the Coleman leaderboard, but it was his work all over the ground in the three-point win over Collingwood that impressed most.
The veteran finished with 10 Coaches votes after picking up 29 disposals, four tackles and a goal including 13 touches in a mammoth last quarter.
King simply thinks that there’s no matchup for the 35-year-old who presents as such a difficult option to play on inside 50.
“My first thoughts are that he (Chris Scott) has done it again,” King said on SEN Breakfast.
“The coach of the Cats unlocking Patrick Dangerfield as the game's most destructive forward is a weapon that no one can match.
“What sort of player do you put on him? Do you go with a key post player who can handle full back or the power of when he decides to lead? Do you put a runner on him that can do the job at clearances?  Do you put a ground-level player on him? A back pocket type that can stop him from crumbing the ball?
“I just think now it's a discussion around health. How do they manage this guy to be cherry-ripe for a late-season run?”

Already an eight-time All-Australian, Dangerfield can equal Robert Harvey as a nine-time honouree this season and Kane Cornes pondered whether he’s in the 2025 side based on this year so far with King.
Cornes: “It's just a remarkable story
“I just had to plug in most All-Australians ever, and can I just ask you, is he All-Australian right now?
“You've got thoughts on the All-Australian team often. Eight games in, is Patrick Danesfield in your All-Australian team?”
King: “No, only because you only have one of that position.
“But by season’s end, who knows.”
Dangerfield gets his next chance to impress when the Cats face the Giants at GMHBA Stadium on Sunday.
