Four-time premiership Hawk Luke Hodge has put his former side in the gun ahead of their Easter Monday clash with Geelong.
Hawthorn has a lot to answer for in the coming rounds, with their disappointing Gather Round thrashing at the hands of Port Adelaide opening up the previously flawless side for examination.
With a poor forward half showing, stoppage domination and a 12-goal to three first half, Hodge has called upon the club’s leaders to step up against their old rivals on Monday.
“I’m going at the Hawthorn boys,” Hodge told SEN’s Whateley.
“The big physical boys in there, the ones who can antagonise the opposition. What happened to them on the weekend?
“They need to turn it around. It’s the Easter Monday clash, Geelong have had a really good win against the Crows on Thursday, they’ve had 10 days off, it’s pretty much a mini bye for them.
“I’m looking at the (Blake) Hardwick’s, the (James) Sicily’s, the (Tom) Barrass’, the bigger bodies, the ones who get stuck in.
“I’m looking for (Nick) Watson to really go and antagonise the Cats, you’re not going to have Bailey Smith, (Max) Holmes, (Tom) Atkins, (Gryan) Miers just cruising through the midfield doing what they want. You can’t let (Patrick) Dangerfield and (Jeremy) Cameron run around and kick for goals and set up the lead.
“My chat this week is to the Hawks, to rebound for the physicality they copped from Port Adelaide.
“Show the spirit, show the passion, the hatred and the rivalry that the Hawks and the Cats have had over the years, because I know the Hawks supporters left very disappointed on Sunday at Gather Round.
“They will be rocking up Easter Monday expecting a lot harder battle form their beloved Hawks.”
With the Cats coming off the back of an impressive 18-point win over the in-form Crows, Monday’s showdown will be no easy feat for the Hawks.
