The off-season recruit that Pendlebury has been “super impressed by” over summer
Collingwood veteran Scott Pendlebury has loved the work of Harry Perryman in his first pre-season with the Magpies.
The former GWS utility joined Collingwood as an unrestricted free agent during the off-season, signing a six-year deal at the AIA Centre.
The 26-year-old comes to the Magpies as a ready-made option and while he played primarily as a half-back for the Giants, Pendlebury foresees him playing on the ball primarily in black and white.
Speaking on The Howie Games’ – Pendlebury: Beyond 400 podcast where the 403-gamer records his thoughts and takeaways from pre-season sessions via audio, the veteran couldn’t have been more impressed with Perryman in a pair of pre-Christmas sessions where he was a clear standout.
Pendlebury gave Pies fans an insight into what to expect from Perryman and what role he could play in 2025.
“We did a bit of match play tody, two eight-minute blocks of match play,” Pendlebury said after a pre-season training session.
“I think that helps you open up, be in the flow, read the cues and read what other players are doing.
“I played in the midfield with H. Perryman, it was good to start building that connection with him and I’ve been super impressed with him at training.
“He just does everything really, really well. He’s such a good kick. He has good hands. He’s a hard worker and plays both sides of the footy really well.
“It really reminded me today in the match play of a Luke Ball who came to us in 2010 and just fit in straight away, ‘Pez’ reminded me of that with how clean he was, he made the easy decision and set players up really well.
“It’s almost death by a thousand cuts with ‘Pez’ because he does a lot of things really well and I love that he goes super hard both ways in attack and defence.
“He’s just a natural footballer and I think we need a few of those in our side. I’m super impressed by him.”

In a follow-up session, Pendlebury was again impressed by Perryman who was his clear standout.
If the former Giant earns a spot in Collingwood’s Opening Round midfield, he could line up alongside the likes of Nick Daicos, Jordan De Goey, Pendlebury, Jack Crisp and Darcy Cameron.
“Perryman again was a standout for mine playing in the midfield again and I was on his team,” Pendlebury said.
“It was only for 10 minutes I think but he was best on ground by a long way which was really exciting, I think he’s going to be an excellent midfielder for us.”
Perryman could make his Collingwood debut against his former club GWS when the sides meet during Opening Round at ENGIE Stadium on March 9.
