The Freedman stable’s “best for the day” and why their colt at nice odds can win the Blue Diamond

Anthony & Sam Freedman have a strong hand at Caulfield for the Blue Diamond Stakes meeting this Saturday.
Their best winning hope comes up in Group 3 Zeditave Stakes over 1200m in the form of the promising Tropicus.
The Too Darn Hot colt has previously raced in very strong company against the likes of Storm Boy, Traffic Warden, Broadsiding and Private Life so will appreciate the drop in class, according to Sam.
“This looks his race, he’s probably our best for the day,” he said on SENTrack’s Giddy Up.
“He gets the blinkers on, 1200m, Mark Zahra, good gate (3), he’s capable of settling handy.
“He’s had the run under his belt and that will just take the edge off him a little bit. Given his form lines he’s very well weighted (56kg) in these sorts of races.
“He looks very hard to beat.”
Tropicus, who has won one of six career starts, is currently rated a $3.80 chance with Sportsbet for the Zeditave (Race 4) at Caulfield on the weekend.
That race will take place earlier in the day before one of the features - the Blue Diamond.
The Freedmans will back up Tentyris after his dead-heat triumph alongside Shining Smile at Flemington last Saturday and with a nice gate (4) for Damian Lane he can take out the $2 million race.
“He can win, it’s an open year,” Freedman said of the Street Boss colt.
“I don’t think we’ve ever backed one up into the Diamond before, at least in recent years.
“All the signs you want to see from a two-year-old out of the race we’ve seen. He pulled up super.
“I’d be pretty optimistic that he’d go there and potentially perform even what he did on the weekend.
“The real version of him we saw on Saturday and if he reproduces that from a good gate he’ll at least put himself in the finish and give them something to run down.”
Tentyris is currently priced at $17 with Sportsbet for the Blue Diamond (Race 8).
The Freedman stable have a number of other runners at Caulfield and Rosehill on Saturday. See them all below.
