The current players with the most Brownlow votes at your club
SEN • June 19th, 2025 10:21 am

Geelong captain Patrick Dangerfield plays AFL game 350 this Friday night, becoming just the 25th player to do so in league history.
Over the course of his career, the former Adelaide star, 2016 Brownlow Medallist and 2022 premiership player has polled 251 votes in the Brownlow Medal.
That tally sits second behind Gary Ablett Jnr’s 262 for all-time votes polled. And the way the Cats veteran is playing in 2025, he could bypass that number later this year.
Given he is second overall and the fact that two-time winner ‘GAJ’ is no longer playing, that makes ‘Danger’ the highest Brownlow poller of current players.
With a tip of the hat to the 35-year-old great, we’ve taken a look at all 18 clubs and their current Brownlow leaders.
See our list below:
Top 5 Crows100 - Rory Laird84 - Taylor Walker53 - Jordan Dawson41 - Matt Crouch29 - Ben Keays
Rory Laird’s 100 leads the way for the Crows with five double-figure seasons highlighted by 19 in 2018 - a best and fairest and All-Australian season. Tex Walker’s longevity has him in second with 84 votes, while captain Jordan Dawson (53 total, 7 with Sydney) is coming with a bullet, polling 38 in his past two seasons.
Top 5 Lions209 – Lachie Neale97 – Dayne Zorko55 – Josh Dunkley49 – Hugh McCluggage25 - Charlie Cameron
Lachie Neale has recorded six seasons with 20+ votes, including two Brownlow Medals in 2020 and 2023 (he polled 63 votes with Fremantle). Veteran Dayne Zorko sits second, peaking with 19 votes in 2019. Josh Dunkley earned the majority of his votes at the Bulldogs (40), while Hugh McCluggage continues to build strongly and looks set to poll heavily across the rest of his career.
Top 5 Blues186 – Patrick Cripps79 – Sam Walsh36 – Charlie Curnow26 – Harry McKay25 – Sam Docherty
Dual Brownlow Medallist Patrick Cripps leads the way, highlighted by a record-breaking 45 votes last season. Following in his footsteps is Sam Walsh, who proved his polling power with a 30-vote campaign in 2021. Key forward duo Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay are next, often polling in games where they’ve kicked big bags. And veteran Sam Docherty rounds out the top five, though he’s yet to produce a double-figure vote season in his career.
Top 5 Magpies233 – Scott Pendlebury135 – Tom Mitchell101 – Steele Sidebottom77 – Nick Daicos61 – Jordan De Goey
Collingwood games record holder Scott Pendlebury leads the way, having polled in an incredible 18 separate seasons. Pendles is fifth for all-tine votes and second behind Danger of current players. Tom Mitchell follows, having amassed votes across stints with Sydney and Hawthorn, including a Brownlow Medal in 2018, however, he’s collected just 12 votes since joining the Pies. Similar to Pendlebury, veteran Steele Sidebottom has polled in 13 different years. Meanwhile, Nick Daicos sits fourth and looks destined to move swiftly up this list by the end of his career.
Top 5 Bombers146 – Zach Merrett71 – Todd Goldstein60 – Dylan Shiel50 – Darcy Parish27 – Nic Martin
Zach Merrett leads the charge with nine double-figure seasons, including a personal best of 20 votes in 2021. Todd Goldstein follows, though all his Brownlow votes came during his time at North Melbourne. Similarly, Dylan Shiel earned over half his career votes at GWS, but produced his best season in his Bombers debut, polling 14 votes. More than half of Darcy Parish’s career total came in a single campaign - a standout 26-vote year in 2021. While emerging star Nic Martin looks set for plenty more in seasons to come.
Top 5 Dockers190 – Nathan Fyfe77 – Andrew Brayshaw63 – Caleb Serong50 – Shai Bolton49 – Michael Walters
Dual Brownlow Medallist Nat Fyfe dominated for Fremantle between 2011 and 2019, amassing a massive 169 votes. He has had a few slim seasons of late, polling just 16 since the start of 2020. Current midfield duo Andrew Brayshaw and Caleb Serong are steadily building impressive totals, with their vote counts set to soar by career’s end. New recruit Shai Bolton sits fourth, with all 50 of his votes earned at Richmond. Meanwhile, 34-year-old Michael Walters enjoyed his peak between 2017 and 2020, collecting 37 votes across that stretch.
Top 5 Cats251 - Patrick Dangerfield103 - Jeremy Cameron68 - Mitch Duncan55 - Cameron Guthrie43 - Tom Stewart
The poster boy for this piece, Patrick Dangerfield has the second most Brownlow votes of all-time and will probably surpass his former teammate Gary Ablett Jr (262 votes) by the time his career is done. Behind him, Jeremy Cameron has done brilliantly to reach triple figures given his status as a key position player. The next best key position vote-getter in the AFL is Taylor Walker with 84. Mitch Duncan, Cam Guthrie and Tom Stewart have also gained the attention of umpires for years.
Top 5 Suns66 - Touk Miller58 - Noah Anderson50 - Matt Rowell25 - David Swallow17 - Brayden Fiorini
An interesting top five for the Gold Coast, with Touk Miller having less votes than would be expected of a 200-gamer who finished just two votes off winning the award in 2022. Behind him are Noah Anderson and Matt Rowell. While Anderson has more votes than Rowell across his career, the latter picked up a mammoth 25 votes to finish eighth in 2024. Anderson is a contender this year, Rowell is one to watch going forward given his contested game style.
Top 5 Giants97 - Callan Ward94 - Josh Kelly82 - Toby Greene74 - Stephen Coniglio65 - Lachie Whitfield
An interesting list here for GWS with several stars sharing the votes around across much of the last decade. Veteran Cal Ward leads the overall list over 300+ games, although he’s never received 20 or more votes in a single season. Both Josh Kelly and Toby Greene have achieved that single-season feat, and you’d expect them to overtake the veteran in the coming years.
Top 5 Hawks53 - Jai Newcombe53 - Jack Gunston43 - James Sicily35 - James Worpel33 - Karl Amon
Some pretty low totals here for Hawthorn but that’s to be expected for a team that doesn’t have any veteran midfield stars. Despite this, Jai Newcombe is building nicely with 24 votes last season and a 10th-placed finish. His play style on the inside of the contest will no doubt continue attracting the positive attention of umpires.
Top 5 Demons121 - Clayton Oliver121 - Max Gawn114 - Christian Petracca83 - Jack Viney32 - Jack Billings
Such a consistent trio up the top for the Demons. In fact, all of their primes coming at the same time may have cost all three of them a real shot at winning a medal on their own. Clayton Oliver finished third in 2021 and fourth in 2022, both years Christian Petracca also finished inside the top 10.
Top 5 Kangaroos152 - Luke Parker45 - Luke Davies-Uniacke35 - Jack Darling18 - Harry Sheezel18 - Nick Larkey
Luke Parker clears this list easily despite all of his votes coming as a Sydney Swan. It feels like Luke Davies-Uniacke is also only starting to scratch the surface of what he’s capable of with returns of 13 and 18 votes in the last two seasons.
Top 5 Power174 - Travis Boak131 - Ollie Wines62 - Zak Butters52 - Connor Rozee35 - Jason Horne-Francis
Travis Boak is the 23rd-highest Brownlow vote-getter of all time, and his best year came in 2021 when he collected 25 votes. He also finished equal-fifth in 2014 with 21 votes. Second at Port is Ollie Wines who has also been a strong poller of votes, particularly in 2021 when he won the entire thing with a then-record 36 votes. You’d expect the next three - Zak Butters, Connor Rozee and Jason Horne-Francis - to come with a bullet over the next decade too.
Top 5 Tigers69 - Dion Prestia57 - Tim Taranto49 - Tom Lynch21 - Jacob Hopper13 - Toby Nankervis
Richmond’s leader Dion Prestia has been a solid vote-getter across his career. His best haul was 19 in 2022 and he polled 23 votes at the Suns. The numbers at the Tigers are probably skewed a little given how many votes Dustin Martin (213) and Trent Cotchin (148) attracted as stars of the 2017-2020 Tiger dynasty.
Top 5 Saints106 - Jack Macrae88 - Jack Steele41 - Rowan Marshall41 - Jack Sinclair30 - Brad Hill
Jack Macrae tops the Saints’ leaderboard after crossing over from the Western Bulldogs this off-season. Club captain Jack Steele was also a big vote-getter from 2020 to 2023. He twice finished in the top five in both 2020 (equal third) and 2021 (equal fifth). Despite debuting in 2015, Jack Sinclair only earned his first vote in 2022 and since then he’s picked up plenty.
Top 5 Swans74 - Isaac Heeney66 - Brodie Grundy57 - Errol Gulden56 - Taylor Adams52 - Chad Warner
Isaac Heeney roared to the top of Sydney’s leaderboard with a huge 28 votes in 2024. Before that, his previous best season was 8 votes in 2021. Errol Gulden has polled 25+ votes in the last two seasons, and you’d expect him to keep pushing up this leaderboard over his career. Brodie Grundy and Taylor Adams earned all but 1 of their combined 122 votes for Collingwood.
Top 5 Eagles77 - Tim Kelly64 - Elliot Yeo47 - Dom Sheed17 - Jeremy McGovern13 - Liam Baker
Tim Kelly’s 77 leads the way for the Eagles, albeit only 40 of his votes have come from his five seasons in Perth (he earned 37 votes in two years at Geelong). Elliot Yeo follows him in second, with the bulk of his votes coming in 2018 and 2019, while newcomer Liam Baker earned 13 votes as a Tiger.
Top 5 Bulldogs188 - Marcus Bontempelli117 - Adam Treloar60 - Tom Liberatore25 - Jason Johannisen25 - Tim English
No one is shocked here. Marcus Bontempelli easily leads this count for the Bulldogs, he’s also the 14th-highest Brownlow vote-getter of all time and fifth most of all current players. Bontempelli is also the fifth-highest vote-getter of players to never win ‘Charlie’ in a single season, and everyone’s fingers are crossed that he’ll one day win one. Adam Treloar has also been a terrific vote-getter over 14 years.
