The 4 certainties for GWS versus Collingwood
SEN • March 9th, 2025 11:33 am

Back for another year, the SEN.com.au team gives you an insight into how every game will play out across the weekend.
Labelling something a ‘certainty’ in any sport is fraught with danger.
But we’ll attempt to find some anyway.
Here is what we consider certainties for the Opening Round clash between GWS and Collingwood.
GWS
Whitfield to have 25+ disposals
Lachie Whitfield has been one of the major reasons for the Orange Tsunami to be as dangerous as it is.
The half-back line is one the main source of the team's forward forays, making Whitfield central to the way the Giants play.
Often being the man to take the kick-ins and only dipping below 25 disposals two times within the regular season last year, he should be able to crack 25+ once again.
He averages 26.7 touches across 11 career games against the Magpies.
Cadman to kick at least a goal
With no Jesse Hogan and no Jake Stringer in the GWS forward line, the tall options at the Giants will be stretched but this sets up a great opportunity for Aaron Cadman.
The former No.1 pick was extremely consistent last year, scoring at least one goal in 15 out of the 19 games he played.
Now that he will be the main target for the Giants when they go inside 50, this should see him kick at least a goal and potentially multiple in their season opener.

Collingwood
J. Daicos 20+ disposals
Josh Daicos was trialled at half-back late last season and he’s made that move permanent this off-season.
His last game of 2024 came in the role against Melbourne where he finished with 40 disposals and 10 marks.
While he may not go as nuclear as he did that night at the MCG, expect Daicos’ Collingwood teammates to look to him in defensive 50 to launch scoring chains, particularly with Dan Houston out suspended.
25 touches should be no problem for the classy 26-year-old.
Hill 2+ goals
Bobby Hill has been electric this pre-season with eight goals from his two official games so far.
While one bag of four came against an undermanned Richmond line-up, the other came against one of the best defences in the league Fremantle as Hill starred for the Indigenous All-Stars.
Entering the 2025 season recently turned 25 years of age, the 2023 Norm Smith Medallist could be poised to take the next step and really emerge as one of, if not the competition’s premier small forwards.
He should get off to a good start against his former club here with two majors.
