The 2025/26 thoroughbred season commences in Launceston on Sunday with an eight-race program.
It's the first meeting at the track since the night season concluded in April, and the rail is in the +4m position.
The track is likely to race in the soft range.
Best bet
Race 1 – 2. Press For Boom
After winning her first four starts, the bubble burst for Press For Boom in a brief two-start campaign last time we saw her, but she pulled up with an issue after an unplaced run in early January. Her two trials leading into the first-up assignment suggest she’s back to somewhere near her best, and she’s a two-time winner at the 1100m distance. There looks to be good speed in the race, and hopefully Press For Boom will be too strong late.

Race 4 – 1. Warica
The consistent Warica has been a terrific money spinner for connections, banking over $200k in 55 career starts. He was good/unlucky in Hobart last Sunday, firing in a protest against the eventual winner after interference in the home straight. He generally finds a couple better in BM68 grade, but back to a BM60 with a claimer on has been a proven formula for success. He loves racing in Launceston, and with any luck from a low draw, Warica should be in the finish.

Race 8 – 5. Tahitian Warrior
A return to a soft track in Launceston can spark sharp improvement for Tahitian Warrior, who hasn’t done much in three runs to start the campaign. In fairness to the horse, he’s a stayer looking for a trip, and what he’s contested have been largely unsuitable. What those runs have done, though, has seen his rating drop from 62 to 58 for a winnable assignment, and he gets a positive rider change with Kelvin Sanderson going aboard.
