Tasracing’s Sunday best bets at Hobart (10/08)

The Tasmanian Racing Club in Hobart host their first meeting of 2025/26 with an eight-race card on Sunday.
After heavy rain resulted in a wet track a fortnight ago, the conditions should be drier this week, with the track likely in the 5-6 range.
The rail is in the true position, last used here for the meeting on 22 June.
Best bet
Race 2 – 12. Geegees Missile
Geegees Missile was consistently a few lengths off the better 2yos last season, but she has plenty of ability in her own right, and I think she can open her winning account on Sunday. She was scratched from the meeting here a fortnight ago, which I think was a smart move as she’s trialled again since then, and has a nice buffer into this 1100m contest. From gate 1, Troy Baker should either lead or box seat, and likely be too good with any luck in running.
Next best
Race 5 – 2. Coastal Strike
Coastal Strike relished the heavy conditions to win at the last Hobart meeting, and I think he can win again on a firmer surface. He played up pre-race two starts ago when unplaced behind Snow Eagle, whom he meets again here, and importantly drops 4kg from that run. He also drops 2kg from his last start win, and I don’t see a lot of pressure for him bowling along in front. If they leave Coastal Strike alone, he’ll take some running down.
Best each-way
Race 1 – 10. Talk Soon
A pretty limited maiden kicks off the day, but I’m keen to be with Talk Soon despite her very moderate overall record. The 5yo mare was way out of her grade two starts ago when unplaced in an 1100m BM60, before she jumped sharply to 1600m and had to do the donkey work behind Coastal Strike. That looks to be very good form for a race like this, and I’m hoping the market gravitates towards Siena Wolf and Skelmorlie, which would see an each-way price about Talk Soon.
