Steven Adams' season is over.
On Thursday (NZ time), reports emerged from NBA insider Shams Charania the Kiwi centre has undergone surgery to repair his injured ankle.
The procedure will rule him out of the remainder of the Rocket's 2025/26 campaign.
Adams sustained the injury during the Rockets' clash with the New Orleans Pelicans, coming down awkwardly after contesting a shot and subsequently having to be helped from the court.
The veteran big man posted from his hospital bed an hour after the news broke, with the caption: "All went well. Grateful for all your thoughts and prayers."
Originally diagnosed as a Grade 3 ankle sprain, there was initial optimism that Adams would be able to return to play at some stage before the playoffs.
But further consultation has revealed the Wellingtonian will require surgery, with an eye to returning for the start of next season.
Adams has been a front-court enforcer for the Western Conference fourth-seeded Rockets this season, leading the league in offensive rebounding with a per game average of 4.5.
