Who will stay and who will go?
Channel 9 journalist and SEN regular Tom Morris has run the rule over a number of players, 17 in fact, who come out of contract later this year.
This is a time capsule to be looked back on as conversations and negotiations continue over the course of the year.
See the contract calls below:
Matt Rowell (Gold Coast): βStays on a two-year deal I think.β
Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs): βStays, donβt know how long, write his own check.β
Ed Richards (Western Bulldogs): βStays on a long-term deal.β
Brayden Maynard (Collingwood): βStays at Collingwood, I think.β
Reilly OβBrien (Adelaide): βI think heβs making Adelaide work for it a bit. I think he stays but Iβm not confident on that.β
Brandon Starcevich (Brisbane): βStarcevich stays. West Coast has cooled on him a bit because of the concussion. Other clubs have looked at him, but he wants to stay at Brisbane and Brisbane like him.β
Jack Silvagni (Carlton): βHeβs an interesting one. Carlton want him to stay, heβs a free agent, signed a two-year deal last time. His next deal might be a little bit better than that. I think he stays at Carlton and they need to pay him what he deserves now because heβs playing such good footy.β
Sam Draper (Essendon): βFree agent, Iβm saying stay.β
Leek Aleer (GWS): βI think Leek Aleer goes. St Kilda is the front-runner there. He goes because the Giants just canβt match what heβs being offered elsewhere.β
Lloyd Meek (Hawthorn): βLloyd Meek stays, I think that will probably be a four-year deal.β
Massimo DβAmbrosio (Hawthorn): βHe stays.β
James Worpel (Hawthorn): βI might be looking silly here but the way itβs looking at the moment heβs more likely to go. Thereβs some good offers out there for him. Melbourne and
St Kilda really like him. The Hawks are happy to keep him, but probably arenβt willing to offer him the long-term deal as a free agent that he wants.β
Tom De Koning (Carlton): βItβs so much money to pass up. I think heβll end up going but I say that through gritted teeth. Thatβs got all the hallmarks of a player thatβs looking to go. The sort of cash thatβs being offered by the Saints is very hard to say no to.β
Jase Burgoyne (Port Adelaide): βHe stays, I think on a four-year deal to free agency.β
Jimmy Webster (St Kilda): βStays on a short-term deal. They like him.β
Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera (St Kilda): βWeβll know by halfway through the year. I think the family pull is so strong that itβs more likely he heads back to South Australia. But Iβm not sure heβs even made his mind up yet. Heβs very close to Jason Horne-Francis at Port Adelaide. Adelaide are heavily in for him. Iβd be guessing between those two.β
Oscar Allen (West Coast): βOscar Allen goes to Brisbane as a free agent. Iβm still very confident on that.β
