The last Tasmanian thoroughbred meeting before Christmas is in Devonport on Friday for the Kevin Sharkie Sheffield Cup program.
As was the case with the Golden Mile a fortnight ago, the winner of the Sheffield Cup will be guaranteed a spot in the Ladbrokes Devonport Cup on 9 January 2025.
It's a twilight card with the first of eight scheduled for 14:28.

Race 8 – 2. Blonde Suspect
I found it a low-confidence program and hard to find standouts. I’ve landed in the last with Blonde Suspect as my best. In a fast run race controlled from the front, he went as well as he could in the Golden Mile, and this is a significantly easier assignment. He does his best racing at this track, and I think Blonde Suspect will finish over the top if he’s within striking distance turning for home.

Race 2 – 3. Dadandhisgirls
The market found Dadandhisgirls late on debut, and the push was spot on, recording a highly impressive victory at the track and distance. The time of 59.33s is quick, particularly for maiden grade, and he looks better suited over 1009m than his key rivals, who are deeper into the campaign and dropping back from longer distances. Big chance to make it 2/2, and is one to follow going forward.

Race 3 – 4. It’s Jagger Time
I think we’ll see each-way odds about It’s Jagger Time, which will be a play for me in the third of the day. He was favoured leading in Launceston given some carnage in behind, but he gave a good kick on the corner and was only grabbed late by a horse who subsequently started favourite in a class 3. The map sets up well for a good run on speed again, and he’s placed in two from three in Devonport, including his only win.
